Why You Should Buy a Used Motorcycle From Auctions

Motorcycles are expensive toys. Many people would love to own one but a motorcycle is a luxury that it's financially out of reach for many people.

Buying a brand new motorcycle on a dealers stand is obviously the best option, but even with all the promotions and freebies, it's still too much expensive for the pockets of many motorcycle enthusiasts.

So what do you do? Give up your dream of owning a brand new motorcycle or try to find that sweet deal that it's out there?

There are several ways you can acquire a used motorcycle: friends and acquaintances, classified ads, dealers and my favourite one...auctions!

Friends and acquaintances are the answer for many folks but personally I never mix friendships with business. If something goes wrong, you may lose more than a few thousand dollars.

Dealers

You should visit your local dealer to see if he has something that suits you, but depending where you live results will vary. Unfortunately I never found anything that spiked my interest.

Classified Ads

Personally I never met someone who got their motorcycle through a classified ad, so I never considered it. Even though I browse through them every now and then, I never found something that 100% interested me.

Auctions

Auctions are arguably the most popular method nowadays, simply because it offers you tens of thousands of choices at a distance of a click, and most of the deals are cheap. There are many auctions out there where people buy new motorcycles but after a while they are forced to sell them due (mainly) financial or health problems.

Their loss is your gain.

On 2006, I wanted to buy a new motorcycle in order to celebrate my new job promotion.

I searched and searched for several weeks for a good deal (both online and offline) but Lady Luck wasn't with me that time.

However a few days later, I noticed an eBay auction for a Harley-Davidson Softail for only $5500. Since I thought something had to be wrong with it since it was so cheap I checked the seller's trade rating and contacted him.

After we exchanged emails we closed the deal. Unfortunately for him, he was going through a rough time and needed the money to pay off his debts. Later on, I became the owner of a nice Harley-Davidson.

Even though you know nothing about the seller or the desired item per se, you can always check their seller score to see what kind of people they are. I recommend always reading the negative feedback and only doing business with someone that has +95-98% positive ratings.

It can take a while until you find something you want, but when you have hundreds of new motorcycles auctions it will be a matter of time until you find The One.

See you on the road.
